Armor and helmets are assembled by connecting boards called kozane with threads. The plaque is made of pure gold foil and processed so that it will not come off. Pure gold is the most stable substance among metals, so even if it is displayed for many years, its color does not change much and it is rather easy to handle. In the manufacturing process, gold leaf is applied by hand, which is time-consuming. This is the oldest technique used in decorative armor in Kyoto.
"Black bill"
It is a multi-layered black paint on a small bill.
This type of lacquer is coated with lacquer in multiple layers so that it will not come off even if it is displayed for many years. It does not have the luxury of genuine gold foil stamping, but the overall atmosphere is calm.
Many of the existing national treasure-class armor are black bills.
"Genuine gold-plated bill"
It is a small bill plated with real gold. Generally speaking, the real gold helmet often refers to this real gold plating. Since plating is applied on the small bill, the finish is even and uniform. This is the most common method of processing gold-colored bills.
"Washi bill"
It is a small bill that is often found in the armor of the Kanto region. It is a small bill made by stacking several small pieces of Japanese paper on top of each other and applying black paint on top of it. Although it is not flashy, it is a process that creates a unique atmosphere where the craftsmanship shines.

In the case of this type of helmet, a "matching bowl" is generally used. This is a technique to make the head part of the helmet (hemispherical one) by stacking several iron plates, and the craftsmen assemble each one by hand, so you can see the beauty as a craft. ..
Most popular products are processed by casting, and they can be processed by pouring molten metal into the mold, so they are suitable for mass production.
"ODOSHI yarn"

It means using pure silk (natural silk) for the thread that connects the bills.
Unlike chemical fibers and cotton threads, pure silk threads have a unique tension and luster, and the overall finish is plump and elegant.
KARAHITSU
"Shyahari Karahitsu"
The box on which the armor helmet is placed (all the armor helmets fit in this box) is called Karahitsu.
A thin cloth called Shya is stretched on this abalone to give it strength. This technique is used in many decorative armor in Kyoto.
